Construction in Final Phase

The Glen Town Center Streetscape project made progress this week as construction winds down. The contractor continues coordinating various tasks including:
  • Finalizing electrical and irrigation system installation
  • Delivery and installation of signage and outdoor furniture including benches, bike racks, and trash bins
  • Plant trees and shrubs in planter beds
  • Caulking along the sidewalk adjacent to business fronts
  • Spraying protective coat on concrete sidewalk
  • Installing railing on Valor Drive and various handrails throughout the project site 
Visitors and businesses of the Glen Town Center can expect minimal disruptions as we complete construction punchlist items.

Parking spots on Tower Drive and Navy Boulevard will be limited when trees and outdoor furniture is delivered. Parking is encouraged in the parking garages which are accessible via Aviator Lane and Valor Drive.

Punchlist items should take approximately three weeks to complete.

Final Phase of Construction

The Village of Glenview has started the final phase of construction for the Glen Town Center Streetscape project. Although major construction activity is complete, we continue to urge visitors of the Glen Town Center to use caution considering there will be trucks entering and leaving the project site delivering outdoor furniture, statues, trees, and plants.

Work completed this week, August 22 to August 26:
  • Install railing at the retaining wall on Aviator Drive.
  • Continue installing irrigation system and electrical throughout project site.
  • Remove temporary electrical lines from project site.
Construction activity scheduled for next week, beginning August 29:
  • Finish installing irrigation system and electrical throughout project site.
  • Begin landscape work – installation of trees and shrubs.
  • Install outdoor furniture including trash cans and benches.
  • Caulking along buildings, doorways will be caulked after business hours.

Preparations for Landscaping

The concrete work throughout the project site is complete as we are approach the final phase of the project. We greatly appreciate everyone’s patience throughout this project. Please note, surface parking spots will continue to be limited in anticipation for landscape work, delivery and installation of outdoor furniture and décor, and continued electrical work.

Work completed this week, August 15 to August 19:
  • Completed pouring concrete throughout the project site.
  • Finished installing planter beds on Navy Boulevard.
  • Installed topsoil in planter beds to prepare for landscape work.
  • Ongoing electrical and irrigation work.
Construction activity scheduled for next week, beginning August 22:
  • Install railing at the retaining wall on Aviator Drive.
  • Finish installing irrigation system and electrical throughout project site.
  • Begin landscape work – installation of trees and shrubs.
  • Install outdoor furniture including trash cans and benches.
  • Finalize repairs on retaining walls on Valor Drive and Aviator Drive.

Final Phase of Construction Continues

Major construction improvements on Tower Drive at the Glen Town Center are now complete. The contractor is working to replace removed concrete on the side streets within the next couple weeks, with final punch list items anticipated to be complete by next month.

Work completed this week, August 8 to August 12:
  • Removed existing sidewalk on south Wolverine Drive between Tower drive and the parking garage, and at both intersections at Navy Boulevard and Patriot Boulevard.
  • Completed planter beds on south Wolverine Drive, and prepped sidewalk for concrete pour.
  • Prepped sidewalk and curb for concrete pour at both intersections at Navy Boulevard at Patriot Boulevard.  

Construction activity scheduled for next week, beginning August 8:
  • Pour concrete at south Wolverine, and the intersections of Navy Boulevard and Patriot Boulevard.
  • Install planter beds on Navy Boulevard.
  • Remove and replace southwest corner at the intersection of Aviator Drive and Tower Drive, and northwest corner at the intersection of Valor Drive and Tower Drive.
  • Electrical and irrigation work is ongoing.

Preparation for Art at the Glen

Sidewalk along Tower Drive from Aviator Lane to Valor Drive has been restored just in time for the 13th Annual Art at the Glen Art Festival which will take place on Tower Drive from August 6 until August 7. Please note, parking will not be permitted on Tower Drive starting at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, August 5 until 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, August 7. We urge visitors of the Glen Town Center to use caution and walk around the fenced planter beds.

Work completed this week, August 1 to August 5:
  • Poured stamped, colored concrete on Tower Drive between Navy Boulevard and Valor Drive
  • Pour concrete sidewalk on Valor Drive between Tower Drive and Patriot Boulevard 
  • Removed and replaced curb, installed planter beds, and poured concrete sidewalk on north Wolverine Drive between Tower Drive and the parking garage
  • Driveways into parking garages on north Sable Drive have been replaced and are reopened  
  • Installed top soil in planter beds throughout project site
  • Electrical and irrigation work is still ongoing   
  • Cleaned and prepared for Art at the Glen Art Festival (August 6-7) 
 
Construction activity scheduled for next week, beginning August 8:
  • Begin removing existing sidewalk and curb on south Wolverine Drive between Tower drive and the parking garage, at both intersections at Navy Boulevard and Patriot Boulevard, southwest corner to Aviator Drive and Tower Drive, and north and south corners of Patriot Boulevard at Aviator Drive
  • Continue installing electrical boxes and irrigation piping

Construction Crews Prepare for Glenview’s Art Fest

Construction crews have been working to restore sidewalk in the Glen Town Center where it was previously removed in preparation for Glenview’s Art Fest starting in August 6th.

Work completed this week, July 25 to July 29:
  • Poured white concrete on Tower Drive between Navy Boulevard and Valor Drive 
  • Completed installation of planter beds on Valor Drive between Tower Drive and Patriot Boulevard
  • Poured sidewalk and select driveways into parking garage on north Sable Drive 
  • Sidewalk prepped for concrete pour on Valor Drive between Tower Drive and Patriot Boulevard 
Construction activity scheduled for next week, beginning August 1:
  • Seal stamped, colored concrete on Tower Drive between Navy Boulevard and Valor Drive
  • Pour stamped, colored concrete on Tower Drive between Navy Boulevard and Valor Drive
  • Pour concrete sidewalk on Valor Drive between Tower Drive and Patriot Boulevard 
  • Remove and replace curb, install planter beds, and prepare and pour concrete sidewalk on north Wolverine Drive between Tower Drive and the parking garage
  • Finish pouring concrete driveways into parking garage on north Sable Drive
  • Clean and prepare for Glenview's Art Fest (August 6-7)

·         Prep and pour concrete sidewalk and driveways at the following locations:
o   South side of Valor Drive east of Tower Drive
o   North side of Sable Drive
o   Tower Drive in front of Eggsperience
o   Tower Drive access to rear parking garage
·         Removed and poured required curb & gutter along Tower Drive from Valor Drive to Navy Blvd.
·         Sealed previously installed stamped and colored concrete
·         Install electrical conduit and lighting accessories on the north side of Sable Drive
·         Install irrigation conduits on the north side of Sable Drive

Construction activity scheduled for next week, July 18th to July 22nd

This past week had a few unfortunate circumstances that caused some significant issues for businesses throughout the project area. On Friday, July 15th, power was lost for an extended period of time for all businesses along the west side of Tower Drive. The exact cause for the power outage is still being determined. The major priority at this point is to get power restored as quickly as possible. We understand the major affect this had on all the businesses in the area and will continue to work to determine the cause for the outage.

 Also, sections of newly poured concrete sidewalk along Tower Drive and Valor Drive were damaged due to some unfortunate circumstances. Several sections of concrete were vandalized prior to the concrete setting and similarly several sections were exposed to unexpected weather conditions. These areas of sidewalk will need to be removed and replaced. The contractor anticipates to complete this work next week. The businesses affected by this additional work will be notified prior to the work beginning.

·         Concrete curb and gutter removal and replacement along the north side of Sable Drive

o   This will be the last significant stage of sidewalk removal along Tower Drive
·         Prep and pour sidewalk adjacent to the buildings on the east side of Tower Drive from Valor Drive to Navy Blvd
·         Late afternoon / early evening work, including concrete pouring, scheduled for Monday through Wednesday
·         Remove required curb & gutter along Tower Drive from Valor Drive to Navy Blvd.
·         Prep and pour concrete sidewalk on the south side of Valor Drive east of Tower Drive, the north side of Sable Drive and on Tower Drive in front of Eggsperience
·         Install electrical conduit and lighting accessories on the north side of Sable Drive
·         Install irrigation conduits on the north side of Sable Drive

Concrete Work on East Side of Tower from Aviator Lane to Navy Blvd. Completed

·         Installed colored and stamped concrete in a few miscellaneous areas previously not installed
·         Installed concrete sidewalk on south side of Sable Drive
o   Including Von Maur entrance
·         Installed concrete sidewalk along Aviator Lane, east of Tower Drive on lower level of retaining wall
·         Install concrete sidewalk at miscellaneous locations along the project site that were previously removed.
o   South east corner of Aviator Lane and Tower Drive, within South Park Area
o   South east corner of Navy Blvd and Tower Drive, near State & Main Bar & Grill
o   Miscellaneous areas along Navy Blvd
·         Installed topsoil in planter beds
·         Asphalt patching in front of previously replaced concrete curb & gutter
·         Continued with installation of irrigation piping.
·         Continued with installation of electrical conduit and wiring for street lighting and accent lights.
·         Perform general site clean-up in preparation for July 4th Holiday
o   Install temporary stone within areas of concrete sidewalk that were not poured

Work on East Side of Tower Expected to Be Completed prior to July 4th Holiday

·         Completed concrete curbing around planter beds on east side of Tower Drive from Navy Blvd. to Aviator Lane
·         Poured concrete sidewalk from previously installed sidewalk to curb & gutter on east side of Tower Drive from Navy Blvd. to Aviator Lane
·         Continued with installation of irrigation piping
·         Continued with installation of electrical conduit and wiring for street lighting and accent lights.

Construction activity scheduled for next week, June 27th to July 1st
·         Install colored and stamped concrete on east side of Tower Drive from Navy Blvd. to Aviator Lane
·         Install concrete sidewalk on south side of Sable Drive
·         Install sidewalk along Aviator Lane, east of Tower Drive on lower level of retaining wall
·         Install concrete sidewalk at miscellaneous locations along the project site that were previously removed.
·         Continue with installation of irrigation piping.
·         Continue with installation of electrical conduit and wiring for street lighting and accent lights.

·         Allow outdoor patio seating areas to be opened prior to July 4th Holiday along east side of Tower Drive.
